Emirates Flight to JFK Quarantined, Sick Passengers Hospitalized

An Emirates plane from Dubai to New York landed and was immediately quarantined as many passengers were reported as being ill. While Emirates reports on their twitter feed that only ten passengers were taken to the hospital, over 100, including crew members, were looked at for being sick.

The most common reports from those that claimed of being sick were a cough and fever. They have been treated at the airport and released. 10 of them were taken to the hospital.

The CDC was dispatched along with dozens of ambulances. In an official statement:

“CDC public health officers are working with port authority, EMS, and CBP officials to evaluate passengers including taking temperatures and making arrangements for transport to local hospitals those that need care,” the CDC said in a statement. “Passengers who are not ill will be allowed to continue with their travel plans, and if necessary will be followed up with by health officials.”

Erin Sykes from New York was on the flight and is live tweeting her experience. Here’s a tweet onboard with, what I can assume, is a health official.

Later you can see the passengers deplaning and having their temperatures checked.

As much as I love flying in Emirates and often joke about wanting to spend more time in the airplane, this is obviously NOT what I meant by that.

I really hope that everyone is OK and that we find out what’s going on.
