American Airlines Promotion, 10,000 miles – Check your Email!

There are a lot of holidays coming up in the next few weeks; Mother’s Day, Father’s Day, a lot of graduations, and so American Airlines has launched a pretty easy promotion for you to earn 10,000 by completing some simple tasks. I don’t see a link to sign up, so it might be targeted to specific users or just a general promo. With that said, the tasks to complete aren’t that difficult, so you might as well go ahead and do it anyway!

From now through June 15th, you can earn 2000, 5000, or 10,000 miles depending on how many of the American Partners you transact with. There’s only four partners to choose from, so it should be an easy grab for 10k miles!

Earn up to 10,000 bonus miles
Whether it’s Mom’s or Dad’s special day, graduation or an upcoming birthday, the more you transact with participating partners through June 15, the more American Airlines AAdvantage® bonus miles you can earn.
  • Transact with 2 partners, earn 2,000 bonus miles
  • Transact with 3 partners, earn 5,000 bonus miles
  • Transact with all 4 partners, earn 10,000 bonus miles

Two of the partners are no brainers. All you’ve got to do is dine with the AAdvantage dining program and shop with the AAdvantage shopping program. The other two aren’t difficult but they do cost a little bit of money. 1-800 flowers and Vinesse wine clubs all require a minimal outlay of cash, but in my opinion, you’re actually getting a good value for the money you pay and the miles you earn.

Lets take a look at what this might cost:

Chances are you’re already buying something online and you’re already eating out. Let’s assume for the sake of argument that you’re spending $20 online and $20 at a participating restaurant.

Vinesse Wine Club will let you get out for $41.94 and a decent bouquet of flowers for someone you love will run you around $50 with shipping.

  • Wine = $42
  • Flowers = $50
  • Dinner = $20
  • Shopping = $20
  • Total =$132 and 10,000 miles

So, if you just threw away the flowers, food, and wine, you’d be getting miles at a little over 1 cent a piece. A great deal, sure! BUT… you’re getting all the extras included. I’ve got someone I work with who LOVES wine, so I’m thinking this would be an excellent gift for her. I’ve got to eat, and lord knows I’ll do my shopping, so this promotion is a no brainer.

Don’t wait too long, because the promotion ends June 15th. I’ve already done my shopping this morning, placed the wine order, and the flowers are on their way. Only thing left is to find a participating restaurant and get out of the house.

Did you get this email? Are you going to take AAdvantage of the offer?

  1. AA miles have virtually no value. Move on to other promotions…

    • In general I agree with you, Jason. But there are a few things where this promotion works. One specifically is if you have an AA credit card and can use the Reduced Mileage Awards. 10K + 6K for the wine plus your other spending is essentially a round trip ticket somewhere in the US. What makes it valuable (IMO) is that the airports on the list are generally smaller and out of the way, which often means they are expensive. Flights to my hometown are almost always $500 r/t; it was on the reduced mileage chart over the winter, however. If I’d had the opportunity to grab the miles needed to go home for ~$160, I absolutely would have taken it.

  2. FYI, I think there’s a minimum spend for some of those promotions.
