Get SPG Points on Broadway Shows

Planning a visit to the Big Apple and hoping to see a Broadway show while in town? Dying to see one of the shows while they are on tour through the country? Why not get a few extra SPG points in the process?

Earning SPG points on Broadway shows is pretty simple, and a no brainer for anyone who already intended to see any of the participating plays. In order to do so, there’s only one step required prior to your purchasing the show tickets, and you’re good to go. Let’s see how this works.

Broadway has its own reward program

Did you know Broadway has its own loyalty program? Well, unless you’re an avid Broadway fan, of course you didn’t. Their program is called Audience Rewards, and it operates much like any other loyalty program out there. From their website:

It is the first national program of its kind dedicated to theatre and the arts and has been named the Official Rewards Program of Broadway. Because the arts and theatre involve many separate players and organizations (theatre owners, producers, ticketing systems), this unique coalition has been created to recognize and reward repeat patrons of the arts as they frequent different venues, organizations, and institutions across the country.

Interesting. So the first thing to know is you MUST register as an Audience Rewards member before being able to get any SPG Starpoints. Head to their website and register for the program by going to ‘Jojn for Free’, filling out the required fields and creating an account.

Once finished, we’ll end up with a fresh new Audience Rewards account. Now all we have to do is link our SPG account to it and be on our merry way to earning more SPG points. To do that, click on your name, and once in your profile, Select Point Earning Preference/Add New Partner, and enter your SPG number, like so:

How many SPG points can I earn?

You can earn up to 2500 SPG points on each ticket through some limited promotions depending on each show, but as a minimum, you’ll earn 100 Starpoints for each Broadway show and 50 Starpoints for each Off-Broadway or Touring show.

The program allows for earning of up to 16 tickets per show per venue each calendar year. So say if Wicked is now playing at the Gershwin Theatre, I can earn points on 16 tickets, and if they were to move to the Nederlander, I could earn on another 16 tickets there as well.

Do ALL Broadway shows participate?

No, not really. But a vast majority of them do. To name a few: Cats, Phantom of the Opera, Wicked, The Lion King, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, The Book of Mormon, Chicago, Hamilton, Waitress, Aladdin, Spamilton, School of Rock, Dear Evan Hansen, Miss Saigon, Anastasia, Avenue Q, Kinky Boots, 1984, Les Miserables, and The Color Purple.

Also note that this isn’t just Broadway shows in New York City, but its Touring companies as well, so that includes Los Angeles, Chicago, Durham, San Diego and San Jose.

Is it worth it?

Heck, yeah. Let’s use an example. Right now, you can go see Chicago on Broadway and earn 1900 SPG per ticket priced $135 or higher. That means you’re getting a whopping 14 points per dollar spent. For perspective, the SPG Amex, which is a fantastic credit card to get, earns you ONE SPG point per dollar spent (plus the 25K signup bonus)

Audience Rewards

Let’s say you bring your significant other to the theater with you, so that you’re earning 3800 SPG points. That’s almost enough for you two to spend a weekend at a category 1 hotel, which goes for 4000 SPG points. Or just save up for more aspirational hotel redemptions later on.
