Tax Software on Sale at Amazon

Yes yes it’s that time again, Tax Season is upon us, and your email inboxes are about to be full of 1099’s, W-2’s, and more. I’ve used Turbotax for years and typically you can find them on sale at office stores, electronics stores, and more, but right now the best pricing we’ve seen is at Amazon.

Best Buy, Target, Intuit, Etc

For the product I currently use, the Premier Home and Business, Best Buy shows $89.99, Turbotax charges $109.99, and Target matches the price at $64.99

Different Turbotax Products

Depending on the type of taxes you need to file, you’ll need different products. Let’s take a look at the different products offered. Don’t get fooled into these expensive prices directly from the manufacturer. We’ve got the best pricing for ya.

Basic Edition – $29.99 <– link

This is great if you have straightforward taxes, perhaps a 1040 from one job, you want to claim the earned income tax credit, and you don’t need to file state taxes.

The cost for the Basic Edition is $29.99 and you can choose to download the product to you computer or have the CD shipped to you.

Honestly, in many situations, considering you can file your basic taxes online for free, I wouldn’t go down this route and pay if you don’t have to.

Deluxe Edition – $39.88 (normally $59.99) <– link

This is a pretty popular version as it includes some of the most common tax situations. If you own your own home, donated to charity, have significant education or medical expenses, have child related expenses or have a lot of deductions and need to file a federal and/or state income tax return, this one might be right for you.

Just as with the Basic, you can choose between versions (PC Download / Mac Download / CD-ROM)

Premier Edition – $59.99 (normally $89.99) <– link

Premier kicks it up a notch and includes information for Stocks, Bonds, Mutual Funds, and Rental Properties. Still available in PC/Mac/CD, the extra $20 is worth it to have your investments taken care of

Home and Business – $64.99 (normally 99.99) <– link

This is the one that we use, as it brings in extra paperwork for the “side hustle” and “gig economy.” If you got money from a side job, a freelance job, or you’re an independent contractor, this is your version. Considering the $5 up-charge from the prior version, this is the best way to go.

I’ve typically seen this go for $84.99 or even $79.99 but I haven’t seen it this low before. $64.99 is a steal to file your own taxes.

H&R Block joins the party

Not to be outdone, H&R Block also has their tax software on sale. You can see all of their offerings here. They’re currently offering a bonus as well. If you redeem your tax refund for an Amazon gift card, you can get a 4% bonus. Not too bad… but I don’ know if I’d want a thousand dollar Amazon gift card (for some of you that get big refunds). Prices start at $19.99

Act Fast

There’s no real set start date or end date to Amazon’s sales, so if you’re on the fence, I would go ahead and get this now. I don’t expect them to keep their pricing low for long.
