Premium Economy Sale: Switzerland to North America from $561 Round Trip

Premium economy can be a great way to get across the Atlantic. While it’s not a flatbed, you still get a bigger seat with extra legroom, improved service, and amenities. That’s perfect for day time flights back to the US, where you’re typically awake for the majority of the flight anyway. Depending on the airline, a cheap premium economy fare can often be a great way to upgrade to business class on the cheap too. If this sounds better than roughing it in the back, then we’ve got the deal for you.

The Deals

British Airways is currently offering some fantastic premium economy fares to the States out of Switzerland. For just $561, you can enjoy premium economy across the Atlantic and back. The deals span both coasts, ranging from New York to Los Angeles, Miami to Vancouver. For the best deals, you’ll want to start out in Zurich, Geneva, or Basel. Some of the best deals include:

  • Basel to Toronto $561
  • Basel to New York $564
  • Basel to Boston $584
  • Geneva to Chicago $589
  • Zurich to Miami $620
  • Geneva to Tampa $682
  • Geneva to Vancouver $692
  • Zurich to Los Angeles $721

In addition, some of these flights are on British Airways swanky new Club World Suites. British Airways recently announced a bunch of new routes that will be receiving the suites. Some of the new routes included in this deal include New York, Boston, Toronto, and Chicago. If you’re planning on upgrading to business, check out the seat map. If business class is in a 1-2-1 layout, congratulations, you’ve got the new Club World Suites! While it may cost a little extra to book with BA, it’s worth it if you plan on upgrading.

Be on the lookout for a seat map with a 1-2-1 layout for the new Club World Suites. Yeah, this looks a little better than 2-4-2…

The Dates

Availability is pretty wide open on these deals from late October to early December. While the sale drops off around the holidays, there’s plenty of availability from January to March. January to March is peak ski season in the Alps. If you like to ski or snowboard, Switzerland is tough to beat.

How to upgrade these flights

Jon recently wrote a great (and timely) guide on how to upgrade your British Airways flights using Avios. Before booking your flights, head over and read his article. The sparknotes version goes like this:

  • Make sure your flight is marketed and sold by British Airways
  • Check for business class availability prior to booking
  • Book your flights in premium economy
  • Call British Airways to upgrade
  • Celebrate

Depending on the dates, upgrading from premium economy to business class will cost between 20,000 and 24,000 Avios each way. I don’t know about you, but $560 and 40,000 Avios seems like a heck of a way to fly in British Airways new Club World Suite.

Where to Credit

These flights book into the K fare class for the intra-European flights and T fare class for the long-haul. Where you credit these flights basically comes down to personal preference. The short-haul flights will earn 50% of the mileage flown for programs like Alaska Airlines Mileage Plan, American AAdvantage, and British Airways Avios. Meanwhile, the long-haul flights will earn 100% of the mileage flown with the same programs. We’re partial to Alaska Airlines though 😉.

Are you planning on using these flights to upgrade to British Airways new Club World Suite?
