King George Hotel, SPG RIDICULOUS Breakfast, Platinum Benefit
In our previous post, we talked about how amazing the Luxury Collection King George hotel is. The breakfast that was given to us as platinum members was so amazing we wanted to give it justice and give it its own post.
The hotel holds a prestigious location in the center of the city across from the Parliament building. Because of this, the hotel’s restaurant on the 7th floor has an unobstructed view of the Acropolis. It doesn’t get any better than this.
The seating area was both outside and inside, and depening on the weather you could choose where to sit. It was chilly but not cold, so we opted for outside.
Fresh squeezed OJ and grapefruit juice is everywhere in Greece, and this hotel is no exception. No boxed juice here, folks.
There were traditional British breakfast offerings (for the boring and unadventurous)
Traditional American breakfast offerings for the lame and uninteresting…
And a great fresh fruit selection.
I mean COME ON people… you’re in Greece. Leave the back bacon, beans, and French toast alone! Get with the program. How about some yogurt that make Chobani look like tap water? SO THICK and so tasty.
They even have sheep’s yogurt.
Dried local fruits.
Local cheese and local (yes local) meats.
Pastries and grains for days…
And did I mention the cheese? Cottage, Philadephia, and… feta. Guess which we chose?
As Platinum members, we were told that we could have the breakfast buffet, but if we wanted to have an item of two from the a la carte menu, that we could have that as well, for no additional charge. I tried the croquet monsieur, and Ben had the eggs benedict.
We also grabbed a sampling of pastries, pies, and of course, feta cheese.
If you’ve never had Χαλβας before (Halvás for the non Greek readers out there) you’re truly missing out on a slice of happiness.
Another great breakfast pastry is Μπουγατοα, which roughly translates to “thin dough with cream.” Do yourself a favor and have a double serving.
This breakfast powered us up for the day ahead which included a handful of ancient sites including the Acropolis, Parthenon, and Hadrian’s gate.
After our two nights (and three days) here at the hotel, we hopped another uber back to the airport to pick up our car and head out on our journey exploring the best the mainland has to offer.
