Iberia offering 50% off all Flights during Award Sale

We’ve seen a lot of airlines going to unconventional lengths to get you to fly with them during the Coronavirus pandemic, but Iberia has launched what I believe to be the sweetest promotion yet. For the next week, you can book any flight in the Iberia network for a flat discount of 50% on the Avios (airline miles) needed to book. This means that you can fly to Spain for only 17,000 miles in business class or 8,500 miles in economy.

The Bones of the Promotion

From now through August 31st, book any flight on Iberia, Iberia Express, or Air Nostrum by Iberia, and pay 50% less Avios. Your flight can take place anytime between September 1st and March 31st, 2021, and is valid for any class of service, economy, premium economy, or even business. 

The only exception to the flights are the Madrid-Barcelona airlift flights, Iberia flights that are actually operated by Level, and the Air Nostrum flights that don’t start or end in Madrid.

With this offer, you can fly from the East Coast of the USA to Spain for only 17,000 miles, a ridiculous deal.

How to Book

Luckily, there’s no special promotion link or anything of the sort to book. All you’ve got to do is log into your Iberia account and book like normal. The pricing will be reflected at the end page when you book. 

We made a mock booking for Chicago to Madrid. When you go through the flight selection process, you can see that the price is 34,000 miles.

However, once you select the business class option, the pricing down below reflects the discount. A flight this cheap in business class is unheard-of.

Using Covid-19 to your advantage

Iberia also has a very flexible booking policy for Covid-19. Any fare that you book between now and August 31st is eligible for a free change of origin, destination, or even date. If you change the origin, date, and/or destination, you’ll be required to pay a new fare-difference. But since the mileage tickets all cost the same, changing the date won’t result in any fare difference, assuming that there is indeed space available.

Now, I say all of this because according to the policy, that’s the case. Iberia phone support has been known to be less than stellar, but this just happened to us not a couple months back with a family member. He was scheduled to fly in September and the flights were cancelled. We moved him a few months out with no change in fare or any uncharges in taxes and fees. It was all done online and was seamless.

Transfer from Chase or American Express

The great part about Iberia Avios is that they partner with both Chase Ultimate Rewards and American Express Membership Rewards, making this offer one of the most lucrative and easy to use awards out there. Simply link your Iberia accounts to your American Express or Chase profiles, choose the amount of miles you want to move over, and voila. The points typically transfer, in our experience, instantly, so finding available flights and then moving the points over is easy as pie.
