Business Class Sale Los Angeles to Costa Rica for $700!
In what could be an interesting mileage run opportunity, there’s a great business class sale from Los Angeles to Liberia, Costa Rica running throughout the schedule for around $700!
If you remember from our Labor Day adventures last year, we flew from SEA-SFO-LAX-JFK-MIA-PTY-MIA-ORD-JFK-SFO-SEA in what was our biggest mileage run, and we earned tens of thousands of miles. Another opportunity has presented itself in the form of Costa Rica instead of Panama. You can head from LAX to Liberia for just around $700. If you want to add some extra connections or an overnight, you can do so for only around $100 extra each way.
The flight looks to be good over all the major holidays including Labor Day, Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Year’s day, so if you want to get away form the family, this is a fantastic opportunity!
There is no minimum stay requirement, so if you want to go for a day or a week, you can!
Potential Mileage Run?
One reason that we’re considering this for a getaway and a mileage run is because of the Alaska Airlines qualifying miles and redeemable miles you could earn.
The flight (with the SFO connection) is 7,629 round trip, and the flights book into “I” class. This means that you’ll earn 150% elite qualifying miles for the trip, so a total of 11,444 miles. Because we’re 75k members, we’ll earn an additional 14,304 miles for a total of 25,748 redeemable miles. That’s 2.7 cents a mile, which is RIDICULOUS! Most transcon mileage runs don’t even get that kind of a value.
Requalfying on Alaska with their partners is going to be a lot easier when you can find great vacation opportunities and mileage runs at the same time.
Have you been to Costa Rica? What can you recommend for us to do?

Ziplining en los bosques, the Arenal Volcano, beaches on both the Gulf of Mexico AND the Pacific Ocean, a Saprissa football game… the possibilities are endless. It’s one of the most beautiful places I’ve ever been. Plan a week-long trip revolving around your mileage run and you won’t be disappointed.

Jon, was there a trick to this fare?
I looked at it on google flights…even the dates in August that you picked, and it comes in consistently around $1200. Best case I would like to fly this over Memorial day or 4th of July.

Hey Jimjar, no trick other than getting to it quickly! Sometimes these go fast. I will tell you, however, that there are still good deals. Delta is offering NONSTOP for $650 (even cheaper than the original post) on various dates, and Avianca is going for around $850. The Delta fare doesn’t work for your selected dates, but the Avinaca one does. Good luck!
