President Trump’s Government Shutdown should NOT affect TSA
Last week, President Donald Trump said that he would own the government shutdown (has it been a week? Feels like longer…). There was a lot of concern about how Trump’s shutdown would affect government workers but never fear, the TSA **shouldn’t** be affected.
Last week during a meeting with Nancy Pelosi and Chuck Schumer, President Trump said “I am proud to shut down the government for border security, Chuck. … I will take the mantle. I will be the one to shut it down. I’m not going to blame you for it.â€

While many parts of the government that travelers like us use on the regular (such as the National Park Service) are closed until further notice, jobs involving national security such as the TSA are required to work.
While they’re required to show up to work, they are not being paid. In the past they have been paid back pay but there is no guarantee.
There’s also no guarantee that the have to be HAPPY about being at work today, or any other day for that matter. Just remember that you’ll want an extra ounce of prevention and 43 gallons extra of patience as you’re heading through the security lines this morning.
Clear
You need Clear. Seriously, you need Clear. If you don’t have it, we have a referral link and you’ll get 2 free months. You’ll bypass all the muggles who don’t have it, saving you, in some cases, well over an hour. Here’s our referral link, thanks in advance in enjoy!
Potential Delays
Traveling through the security checkpoints at SeaTac airport this morning was an adventure as we overheard some of the agents talking about calling in sick in protest. One of the TSA Precheck check points was shut down this morning because of lack of personnel. Today and tomorrow are going to be arguably the busiest travel days of the year, so any delays will be devastating.
Please do remember to arrive well before the flight as you’ll have to clear security. Today is one of those days where I really do recommend two hours before your flight and spend some extra time in the lounge.
We’re going to be arriving extra early for our flight tomorrow and hanging out in the Amex Centurion Lounge. If you don’t have the Amex Platinum card you can find out more about it here. Honestly, it’s the only card we use for lounge access (considering you get Delta Lounges, Amex Lounges, and all Priority Pass lounges… win win!)

Why is there a partial govt shutdown and hundreds of thousands of people furloughed or working unpaid? Oh, yeah, the Wall. But didn’t Trump say the following: “I would build a great wall, and nobody builds walls better than me, believe me, and I’ll build them very inexpensively. I will build a great great wall on our southern border and I’ll have Mexico pay for that wall.”

Trump’s shutdown? It’s Dems who are blocking a funding bill that otherwise gives them everything they want, they are just blocking it based on spite.

I haven’t heard of a “Trump” shotdown? The Democrats are the ones not approving the funding bill. It’s a Pelosi shutdown.

Yea – first off lemme just say that I appreciate that you read our blog William, I really do. Second, we here at NoMasCoach, in case you’re new, believe in facts and truth. When Trump says “this is my shut down” in no language on the planet does that mean “Nancy, you take this one…” it’s simple truths. We can debate anything you want in life, including if AA business is better than BA first or if the warm nuts should be served pre landing or post take off, but I refuse to debate facts. Thanks again – and get a clue next time before you troll up here with your BS. Have a nice day!

Jon,
I’m a director in a global advertising firm. I fly about 70,000 BIS miles a year. Therefore, I enjoy reading blogs about aviation. Yours happens to be on BoardingArea, which in itself should be an indication you’re open to having new readers who may enjoy other blogs in the network.
When you do heavily editorialized, political articles, there’s no way you couldn’t have foreseen political responses. I don’t you see scolding the poster below who left an inane, one-liner insult.
Next time, you may want to consider who you call a troll. I don’t know who you are, or how familiar you are with the digital, globalized world of media, but calling me a troll is hardly the way to invite new readers to your blog.
Oh, and:
UD 747 BA > AA 77W, IMO.

#FactsMatter. Who’s gonna pay for it? MEXICO! Enough said. Please try and be a step above and don’t fall for that. You’re better than that Steve. Your parents taught you better.
