LaGuardia Airport Evacuated after Bomb Threat

Via the New York Post

Around 740 in the morning a suspect in his 50’s argued with a Spirit Airlines employee (surprise, surprise) after trying to purchase a ticket. Once he left the counter he came back and made a threat stating that he had a bomb inside of a bag, and placed it in full view of the airline employees.

There are easier ways to buy airline tickets, but then again anyone coming to the airport at 7 in the morning to purposely buy a ticket from Spirit Airlines probably isn’t the smartest person anyway…

From the NY Post

Police were called in and took the man into custody, the bag was checked out, and found to be totally fine. The terminal reopened a couple of hours later, but airlines were severely delayed. It seems as though the schedules are finally getting back to normal.

I’m wondering if the man wasn’t happy with the extra bag fees that Spirit charges, or perhaps he didn’t like the airport check in fee he was being charged?

Here’s a great article about how Spirit Airlines rakes you over the coals with fees… but I still wouldn’t recommend making bomb threats in defiance.

  1. I know dealing with airlines can be frustrating, but making a bomb threat has to be one of the all-time worst moves you can make.  Nothing good will ever come from it.  And you’ve interfered with the lives of literally 1000s of people who had to evacuate the airport… and everyone who had a delayed flight at 100s of airports across the country.
