Last Day for Skymiles Award Sale to Europe
For the past week or so, Delta’s been running an award sale on all points Europe using Skymiles.
If you’ve been thinking about dropping some of your Skymiles on a trip to Europe, now’s your chance to save a few thousand miles on the price. Economy tickets are only 49k round trip and DeltaOne (business) is pricing out at 102-107k.
While on paper it sounds good, lets really quickly go over the good and the bad.
The Good:
Delta is making this a pretty wide-reaching sale, with most departure cities and destinations available. A lot of fare sales limit one of the two ends of the deal, so since this is being offered broadly, that’s a good.
Also, the availability is sorta kinda good. I just took a quick peek and on a lot of routes, you can get a seat or two. The problem is, of course, that around peak travel time you’re not going to find any seats.
You can travel anytime from the end of September all the way until April 7th, so if you’re thinking about some next year travel for winter/spring, you can book that far ahead and still take advantage of the sale.
Also, since these flights are going to be operated by Delta, expect to see the Westin Bedding collection on board. It’s a high quality product and it does make the sleep better (even though you’re still stuck in an airplane!)
The Bad:
It’s Delta. So their product onboard is going to be mediocre at best in business class. The seats are OK and the food is well plated economy food. Check out our recent review here of a flight in DeltaOne.
Also, there is a 7 night minimum stay, so no long weekends or short trips. You’re gonna have to stick this one out for a bit.
One final negative is that there are tons of blackout dates. So while theoretically you can fly up until April 7th, you’ve got lots of dates. And to make things even more confusing, some dates are blocked for coach and some dates are blocked for business class! Just check out the exhaustive list here.

I’ve always felt that one of the best uses of Delta Skymiles was flying on their partner airlines, and this sale is only for Delta operated flights, so keep that in mind. Still, I think our best redemption so far was our long haul trip to Australia, our flights inside Australia, Indonesia, Korea, and back home, all in business class, and all not flying once on Delta 🙂
