Our Big Fat Greek Trip
In October of last year, British Airways had a business class sale that was good until the end of the booking calendar. Business class seats for summer 2016 travel were going for as little as $500 (using a few tricks…) so we decided on the fly to head to Athens for a 10 day vacation.
We knew that most people did island trips, but since we’re both history buffs, we wanted to spend some time on the mainland itself, since that’s where all the best ruins are. Renting a car would be a perfect way to get around the mainland and see all the sights. We programmed a few days for ourselves in Athens, and then drove up the coast to Larissa and Thessaloniki, through the mountains and over to the west coast and Parga, down into Peloponnese and into Ancient Olympia, and then back up through Kalamata and Mycenae to finish back in Athens.
We didn’t want to leave the islands untouched however, so we decided for a 36 hour trip to Santorini before returning back to the mainland and our eventual flight home.
Here’s a few highlight pictures from the trip, and as you’ll see reading through all the posts, we ate our way through Greece! Ben had lamb every single day prepared a new way, and I tried everything from Gyros to Souvlaki to Moussaka to Tsatsiki to Baklava to … and the list goes on.
Enjoy!
