Review: Marriott Westminster in Denver, CO

Westminster, Colorado is just 10-15 minutes north of Denver and 10 minute south of Boulder, so it’s a great place to be situation to have all kinds of adventure. There are a lot of office buildings around and because of that, a lot of hotels. For the first night that I was in Colorado I decided to give the Marriott Westminster a try. Here’s our complete review.

How we booked

The rates all over Denver for Tuesday night were outrageous, but the Marriott Westminster was only $139 a night plus tax using the AAA rate. Thanks AAA membership! Since we didn’t know how far we were going to get on our road trip across the country, I only booked this hotel about 3 hours before I was to arrive. I made sure to use TopCashBack and got 4% back in cash for my stay, a sweet $5.56 making the stay 133.44 a night. Hey, 4% is 4% right?

If you don’t know about TopCashBack or haven’t used it yet, you can sign up using our referral link and get $10 after your first use. We’ll get $10 as well, so thank you in advance!

The room

Being that I made the reservation just a couple of hours before arrival we didn’t get a room upgrade. Honestly at 1AM I didn’t care, I just wanted to sleep.

The room was standard Marriott with nothing terribly special to set it apart. As you walked in on your left was the complimentary coffee/tea/water…

… and the entrance to the bathroom. I did appreciate the large shower and lack of tub. I’ve always felt a little weirded out about bathing in a tub at a hotel, I don’t know why, so a large walkin shower was perfect.

The bed was a standard Marriott King size bed…

This Marriott still had a desk and chair, a concept that Marriott was/is consider making a thing of the past. Being that this is in a very business centric location, I’d imagine that the desk is here to stay.

A nice touch was the USB power plug right next to the bed. You can power your tablet/smartphone and also plug in a larger device right on the side of the bed. Nicely done!

Breakfast

As a platinum member I was entitled to a free breakfast in their restaurant, Tiller’s. Most Marriotts offer a full breakfast to their platinum guests whereas the SPG properties only offer a free “continental” breakfast as a baseline. This Marriott was no exception, and I could have anything I liked from either the menu or the buffet.

Since I wasn’t terribly hungry, I opted for the buffet and just nibbled on some light bites. There was milk and yogurt,

And a made-to-order omelette station.

I went with the omelette and it was fantastic!

Public Spaces

The hotel is very spacious on the ground floor and beautifully designed. The restaurant has tons of seating options and a fantastic wine selection.

The bar is adorned with warm tones and wood everywhere.

Just to the left of the checkin area was another seating area with tables and sofas for meeting. The hotel also offered some meeting space on the first level.

M-Club Lounge

Reserved for Gold and Platinum Guests, the M-Club Lounge is a place to go and grab a quick snack or drink. It’s at the very end of the meeting space hallway and can also be accessed by a special door in Tiller’s.

Since it was early in the morning there was a sampling of trail mix and some granola bars. I was told that in the evening they had a lite hors d’ouevers offering with alcohol for purchase.

Overall Impressions

The hotel was clean and nicely decorated, a huge plus for me while traveling. Having access to a lounge to grab snacks, coffee, and drinks throughout the stay can be a huge time and money saver when traveling.

I didn’t have a chance to try the restaurant for their dinner offering, but the buffet was perfectly adequate for a quick nibble before heading out for the day.

I’d like to see if next time we head back I could snag a suite upgrade. I saw the photos on their website and they look awesome. The other rooms were very basic and standard Marriott, nothing that you couldn’t find anywhere else.

Until the Marriott/SPG merger is completed, I think the Westin would still get my dollar. We’ll have a review up on them shortly, but once the merger is complete I’d feel find staying at either property.

Have you stayed at the Marriott Westminster? What are your thoughts?
