Great News on Last Week’s Air Canada Deal
Last Tuesday, we shared news of round trip business class fares from the US to Europe for $1,100 on Air Canada.
When the fare popped up, there was some uncertainty around whether or not the airline would honor the deal because it booked into the R fare class. That fare class was Air Canada’s upgrade fare bucket and did not earn any miles.

It turns out that Air Canada will be honoring these fares. Not only will they be honoring the fares, but tickets will be rebooked into the P fare class. This means the flights are now eligible to earn miles! Flyertalk user justsawaufo shared a Twitter conversation with Air Canada confirming this as well as an updated itinerary. Multiple other users also reported similar success.

If crediting the flight to Aeroplan, the updated fare class will earn redeemable miles on 150% of the distance flown. You can also credit the flights to United’s MileagePlus program for 200% redeemable miles. While the fares will also earn 150% qualifying miles and 1.5x qualifying segments on United, these flights will not earn any qualifying dollars on United unless they were booked through United.
For those connecting through Toronto on their outbound flight, the updated booking class also includes access to the Air Canada Signature Suite. The highly regarded Signature Suite includes sit down a la carte dining, premium cocktails, and a personalized concierge service.

If your booking hasn’t been updated yet, no need panic. Air Canada is still working their way through updating bookings and it may take some time. If you booked through an OTA, be aware that several users reported having their bookings temporarily cancelled, but replaced with the correct new booking code.

I had the exact issues that you described with Expedia booking on the Air Canada flights to Paris. After a few hours on the phone with Expedia, they resolved with Air Canada and last night I received a new confirmation with everything booked in P and fantastic seats. Kudos to Air Canada for honoring this.
