Elites: Book a hotel, get a 4,000 Alaska Airlines mile bonus

We’ve written extensively about hotels in the past and have done countless reviews of hotel rooms. What we don’t usually talk about, however, is how we book them. We find that most of the time booking directly with the hotel gives the best rates (and you get to earn those sweet, sweet hotel points!)

For those of you out there (and there are thousands) that couldn’t care less about hotel status and just want airline miles, Rocketmiles is the way to go. You can earn airline miles for the airline of your choice just by booking hotel rooms! This works especially well if you’re in a place where there aren’t any hotels that belong to a chain that you’d want to earn hotel rewards.

Typically you’ll earn between 1,000 and 10,000 miles per night depending on the room rate and location.

Today we saw this offer come through our email and got pretty excited. Book a hotel room as a MVP, MVP Gold, or MVP Gold 75k and earn a 4,000 first mile booking on top of your normal rates.

It’s pretty simple to book a room. Just click on the search hotels button (you should have got this in your email if you’re an elite member), follow the sign up instructions, and voila!

Here’s a random example for a Seattle hotel in a couple of weeks. It should be noted that if you stay at a chain hotel you more than likely will not earn points from the booking, but you sure can try!

10,000 miles for a one night stay is a win, especially if you weren’t going to be earning any hotel loyalty points in the first place. This is potentially a huge way to rack up tens if not hundreds of thousands of miles easily for your hotel stays.

Have you used Rocketmiles before? If so, what’s your experience been?

  3. I’d advise to check the rates carefully with a meta search site before booking. I’ve done that for Rocketmiles and found that other OTAs like hotels.com or Agoda are frequently much cheaper, often more than the miles and lost discounts/points are worth!
In addition, you’ll want to look closely at online reviews – I saw that the hotels that offer the most miles, often have to – because their reviews are bad.
