Delta Removes Earning Charts from their Website

If there were awards to give out to airlines in 2017 for ineptitude and lack of transparency, Delta would win every one! In the past couple of years, Delta has done everything possible to make earning and redeeming SkyMiles as opaque as possible.

I was looking to upgrade my flight from Coach (uggggh) to First Class today, but I wanted to know how many MQM I would earn for doing so. Remember that when you pay to upgrade your seat to First Class on Delta they actually sell you a seat in the higher fare class. This means that you’ll earn all the appropriate bonuses with that.

Partner Airlines are Still There

You can still see partner airline charts like Aerolineas and Xiamen for example…

But Delta has (POOF) disappeared. Now, it’s replaced by this super sleek and sexy website that does absolutely nothing for you. In fact, I’m on hold as we speak with Delta Airlines, and she can’t find anything on the website. Her supervisor can’t find anything on the website. She said that she’s happy to quote me anything I’d like to know, but they can’t seem to find where it went!

HINT – THAT’S BECAUSE DELTA TOOK IT AWAY.

Nope, nothing to see here!

I’ve been on the phone for 20 minutes and the rep still was baffled. She said, verbatim:

I don’t understand why we have to hide everything and make it to difficult. You would think that we would want people to know how many miles they’ll earn from a flight, right?

Actually, I don’t think Delta does want you to know. We know that they’ve increased the mileage amounts required for travel to many of their destinations and now that they’re revenue based it’s harder to earn miles.

We finally found SOMETHING

After many painstaking minutes on the phone she gave me a series of links to follow… click here, look there, scroll, search bar, type this, go down half way, click here… and we found this:

This is it?

It seems to me that with one less earnings chart on their website, this could be changed at any time. I don’t get it, I don’t know why they’re doing it, but it sure does seem super shady to me.

What do you think. What’s Delta’s motive?
