British Airways 100th Anniversary Sale – £100 Flights Each Way!

What’s better than historically cheap fares across the Atlantic? Sales on those cheap fares. To celebrate their 100thanniversary, British Airways is offering fares from London for £100 (~$130) each way every day from January 21-24. Sounds fantastic! So, what’s the deal?

The Details

For those of you who are early risers, you have an opportunity to take advantage of this special anniversary offer. Each day at 7am EST (4am PST, noon GMT), British Airways will release 100 seats to each destination on a first-come, first-served basis. The destinations will not be revealed until the sale goes live, but will include at least one American destination each day (today included New York and Cape Town).

The Rules

Per the T&Cs of the promotion, fares must be purchased as a round trip. As these fares originate in London, there may be limited opportunity for US-based readers to take advantage of this promotion. However, there is also an opportunity to position to London using points and then use London as a jumping-off point to another destination on the cheap. Unfortunately, these fares are not upgradable with Avios, but bags are included and for $260 round trip, who can complain?

How to Book

Set your alarms early – especially for those on the west coast. Click here and be ready to refresh like crazy at 7am EST. Once the sale is live, the cities and available dates will be shown as below.

British Airways will post brief instructions on how to book, but to save time, here’s the gist:

Two links will appear directly below the instructions. Click on the “Book now†link for your desired destination and you will be redirected to British Airways’ search screen. Enter LHR for the departure airport, the destination, and dates that fall within the window and search. Note that only select flights numbers will be available through the promotion. These are noted as “Promotion†in your flight search and also listed in BA’s instructions.

Once all 100 flights have been booked, the instructions will disappear and the following screen will appear instead:

The Competition

At the same time, Virgin Atlantic has rolled out their own “Golden Ticket†promotion. Virgin will be releasing 10 premium economy fares with £1 base fares to random destinations at random times (taxes, fees, and surcharges will bring these fares closer to $200-300). Still a great deal if you can get it, but much more difficult to find. If you’re feeling lucky and have some time to burn today, it can’t hurt to try. Virgin has been dropping a few hints on Twitter throughout the day.

Final Thoughts

While this is a great deal, it’s not necessarily for everyone. However, if you’re already in London or able to position there, this could be a great opportunity to snag a cheap long-haul.

Will you be trying to take advantage of this sale? Good luck and let us know if you’re able to get in on one of these sales!
