Review: Parga Princess Hotel

Parga is a cute beach town on the west coast of Greece that experienced a tourist boom in the early 1970’s. During the high season there are direct flights from over a dozen European countries, and it’s been a secret hiding place for Europeans who have been in the know for decades.

We booked this hotel for 75 euros through hotels.com via our TopCashBack shopping portal. If you don’t have TopCashBack you should absolutely sign up, as we earned 8% cash back from our reservation. If you sign up using our link, you’ll get a $10 bonus and we will as well.

A word of warning: Google thinks that “Parga Princess Hotel†is “Parga Beach†and will direct you to the center of town down very skinny one way streets. Make sure to type in the actual address of the hotel to get to where you’re going.

Manning the check in counter was Costas, the manager of the hotel. He let us know he had us staying in the “Dream†room, and gave us a sheet for us to choose our breakfast for the following morning while he walked us to the room, all of 20 feet. All of the hotel rooms have exterior corridor access, and you have street parking for your vehicle no more than 15 feet away. Pretty convenient if, like us, you constantly realize you just forgot something in the car and need to go get it.

The room was decorated in a sea blue/brown décor. Ironically, the couch was one of the most comfortable I’ve sat on in a long time and it is immense. There was a TV up on the wall with international satellite channels, which definitely comes in handy when you don’t speak Greek and want to stay connected to reality, even if for just a bit.

Inside the cabinet on the wall was a small kitchenette including a mini-fridge, dishes, and hot plate.

The bathroom was a good size, but the shower was pretty tiny. It was a tight squeeze but the water pressure was good, which is the most important thing about the shower for me.

From the balcony of the room you could look out to the sea, the mountains, and over the groves of olive trees.

We took the advice of Costas and headed out to an amazing local restaurant called Sakis. It was about a 5 minute walk downhill from the hotel. I had (you guessed it) lamb, and Jon had a mixed grill of 4 different meats. We finished it up with some yogurt, fruits, and baklava. The sunset views were great from the restaurant, and it capped off a great day.

The next morning we headed down for breakfast, and it looked like they had it set up for 40 or so people, but since we were still on the fringe of the season, the hotel was still pretty underbooked and it ended up being just us and the waitress who spoke no English whatsoever. It ended up providing lots of fun as we were becoming fluent in Greek by then.

The breakfast was simple, but good. And gave us the energy we needed to get on the way with our day.

Without hesitation, we’d return to the Princess Parga. Maybe next time we’d try one of the other rooms like “Romance†or “Princess†to see what they’re like. It was a great experience for us staying at this small hotel, and it definitely was a nice change of pace coming from the big chain hotels we’re used to. Costas at the reception was amazing, and had a ton of recommendations for us, including the old Olive Oil factory and museum, which we’ll write about in a separate post.

If you find yourself in Parga, tell Costas we said Yassas!
