ITC Mughal Agra, A Taj Mahal Luxury Hotel Review

The ITC Mughal Agra hotel is tucked away on a very unassuming street just a few kilometers from the Taj Mahal. After an absolutely exhausting day of being on the road and some quick sightseeing, we were beyond ready for a relaxing luxury stay. Our first stay in India was at the Park Hotel in Delhi, and that … well… sucked. Like, really crappy. So, we were hoping for a step up, and this hotel delivered!

On our recent trip to visit the Taj Mahal, the ITC Mughal was a much needed respite from the chaos that was India. The metal gate opened as we arrived and as is custom in India, the security guards came by with large mirrors on poles to check under the car. A quick check in the trunk and we were on our way into the hotel’s main entry.

Once leaving the bags with the porter we headed down a gorgeous marble walkway to get into the lobby. The walkway is flanked on both sides by lush green gardens and waterways.

Check In

As soon as we entered the lobby, we were blown away by the opulent decorations.

You’ve really got to understand the dichotomy that we’re experiencing right now.. For the past 3 and a half hours, we’d been driving down dusty roads and playing frogger with people, bikes, and cows. To arrive at this Oasis amidst the ruckus outside was a welcome sight.

In the middle of the lobby is an amazing mirrored table with fresh lilies underneath a modern chandelier.

To the left are the three check in counters with beautiful ornate wood desks. Each was manned with an attendant and our check in was processed quickly and efficiently. We were told that as Platinum guests we were invited to the lobby happy hour from 7-8pm where all drinks would be complimentary in the lobby bar (bonus!) and light snacks were also offered, free of charge.

We followed our porter off to the right hand side down a long hallway. On the left hand side was A MASSIVE couch, tables, and chairs with seating for at least a dozen.

On the right hand side was a sort of chaise lounger hanging from the ceiling.

ITC Mughal Suite

We were upgraded to a Mughal Suite because of our platinum status, and even though we were only there for one night, the extra space was appreciated.

You’ll enter the room and immediately be dumped into the living room. A sofa, table and chairs are there to relax. There’s also a desk with plenty of charging stations.

On the right hand side is a huge walk in closet with space to place both pieces of luggage.

On your right you’ll find the double doors to your bedroom which is separated from the rest of the suite.
The bedroom had ample space to relax, including large nightstands and benches to spread out. The lights, AC, fan, and TV are all controlled from a centralized remote on the nightstand.

The bathroom connects to the bedroom and has blinds to keep the light out (or raise them if you wanna watch your +1 bathing!)

The bathroom is huge with a large soaking tub and separate shower stall. The toilet is in a small room where you can close the door if you like.

I almost forgot to mention that in the living room there is a small coffee and tea station with minibar underneath.

As is the standard for most non US hotels, make sure to place your keys in the slot at the door to control room power. It was pretty neat that it showed the outside temp and humidity at your control panel. Notice… 13% humidity… quite the dry day!

How we Booked

This hotel is a category 1 hotel, so we decided to book with points. The cash rate was around $125 for a night, so spending 2,000 points was a no-brainer. It’s kind of ridiculous that an amazing and luxurious hotel like this is only a category 1, but we’re not complaining! We don’t have enough amazing things to say about the hotel as it was perfect in every way imaginable.

Make sure to check out the ITC chain while you’re in India, and certainly make the ITC Mughal a stop for you when you’re visiting the Taj Mahal.
