Hotel Review: Westin Westminster, Colorado

The Westin Westminster (tongue twister, I know!) is nestled just north of Denver and about 8 minutes south of Boulder, CO. It’s an affordable choice if you want to avoid the high priced Boulder hotels and potentially high priced downtown Denver options.

How we booked

We stayed for five nights using points. The paid rates were $149 a night plus tax and the points required were 10,000 a night. Remember that when you book 5 nights using points, your fifth night is free. That means that at only 8,000 points a night, this represented a great value for us. It would have cost almost $900 otherwise… so points to the win!

The room

We were informed that we were upgraded to a corner executive room with a pullout sofa bed. I always request corner rooms as they tend to run a little bit larger and they are always quieter. You’ve only got one neighbor at best instead of being stuck in the middle of a hallway with who knows how many other people around you.

As you walked in the bathroom was immediately on your right. There is a rainforest showerhead (bonus!) and a large countertop. Standard “White Tea Tree” products were offered.

It’s not easy to tell in this picture because of the optical illusion, but the bed IS on a slight slant. There is a small ledge between the painting and bed where you can place things, but it narrows from left to right. It doesn’t detract from the experience at all, but just an interesting quirk to mention.

I loved how the power outlets were on the left side of the bed, but if you slept on the right, you’re S.O.L.

Offering both direct USB connections and standard 3 prong plus is a nice touch.

The area

Immediately surrounding the hotel is a mall with tons of shopping and dining options, a large promenade area, and even an ice rink!

The Restaurant

We’re going to do a review of the restaurant all by itself because it had its high and low moments. Breakfast was included as a platinum member, but you can also have brunch, lunch, and dinner. They also have a full bar if you feel so inclined.

Overall Impressions

For the points required, I feel this hotel is a good bargain. The location, being only 10 minutes from downtown Boulder, is a perfect place to be for starting your Colorado adventures. It’s also only about 25-30 minutes from the airport, so that’s not a terrible jaunt either.

The rooms are slightly dated, and the pillows in the room are horrible, but the bed was comfortable and the room quiet.

The food was hit or miss (which you can read about in a couple of days) but being that it is onsite it is a convenient option.

Don’t hesitate to stay here if you’re looking for a cheap place to stay in Denver. We’ll be coming back again for sure.

Have you stayed here or do you have any other suggestions for northern Denver?
