Hilton Garden Inn Dublin Review

There are a lot of hotels to choose from in Dublin, but the problem is that the majority of them are extremely overpriced. The Hilton Garden Inn is just north of the River Liffey and is perfectly positioned for access to all the sights in town.

Getting to the hotel from the airport is a breeze. As soon as we landed, we headed out to the bus stop and looked for the 747 bus (aptly named) which would take us to the center of town for 6 euros. For reference, the stop for this hotel is the “Convention Center” stop.

A quick 20 minutes later we were at the Convention center stop, and a three minute walk takes us to the hotel.

Check in was a breeze, as we arrived early and no one was there at the time. Also, since it’s a business hotel, most of the weekends are empty. We scored this hotel for a steal, at 80 euros a night.

As a Hilton Hhonors Gold member, we were informed that our room was ready and we could head right up. Floor 522 was just to the end of the hallway past the elevators.

Upon entering, the first thing that we noticed was the unique layout. There were two beds but they were on opposite sides of the room from each other. I suppose this was a good thing in the end, considering I’ve been known to snore at times ☺

The view from the room was… not why we came to Dublin, so who cares.

Just past the room entrances was the TV/Desk/Coffee machine

Note, there is NO airconditioning for the room, but the closet does come equipped with a fan! So if you’re hot just fire that thing up.

The bathroom was quite underwhelming, so underwhelming in fact that I forgot to take pics. Safe to say it was just a standard Hilton bathroom with nothing worth remembering.

The hotel bar DOES serve a might fine cold glass of Guinness however. We made sure that was our first objective upon reaching Dublin ☺

Hilton’s Breakfast

Breakfast was included as a Gold member, and just as you would expect from Ireland, it was underwhelming. Sausages, back bacon, white and black pudding…

Tomatoes, mushrooms and baked beans…

There were some scrambled eggs as well, but if you wanted you could order your eggs any way you like; poached, over easy, however you like, the chef will take care of you!

There was also a great coldcut selection, mixed fruits, and yogurts…

Also, there was a small selection of bread for toasting.

So this pissed me off a bit. There was a coffee machine with 8 buttons for dispensing coffee. In the end, the only option was “Coffee.” Drip, black water, gross coffee. If you wanted an espresso or café latte, there was a Costa coffee in the lobby for a small fee (3-5 euros). You will notice there was a wide selection of tea on offer, and also some hot chocolate.

With about a 15 minute walk over the river, you’re at Temple Bar and all the tourist sites.

Other hotels downtown over that weekend were pricing around 250-300 euros, and while it would have been nice to walk 2-3 minutes to the sights, honestly the 15 minute walk was quite comfortable, and we found some nice pubs and shops along the way. Give it a shot, and I think you’ll be pleasantly surprised!

Has anyone stayed at this hotel? Or, what’s your favorite Dublin hotel?
