This credit card gives you a free week of hotels at signup

Limited time offers come once every few months, and back in May we reported about a Hilton credit card that was offering 100,000 points upon signup. At that point we said we didn’t know when it would be coming back, but now we now. The Hilton Surpass American Express is back with a 100,000 point offer at signup, but the offer expires October 3rd, so if you missed out last time, don’t do it again!

100,000 points is a ton!

While 100,000 points may sound like a lot, exactly what does it get you and what’s the deal with a point? How much is a point actually worth? We’ll tell you here. Read on!

Signing up for credit cards is arguably one of the easiest ways to rack up thousands, if not hundreds of thousands of miles and points FAST. If you’ll remember last year we posted on how we earned almost 2 million miles and points, and credit cards were an integral part of that equation. We also post a lot about airline deals, but what are you supposed to do when you get there? Hotels can sometimes be the most expensive part of your vacation, so offsetting that cost is crucial.

Back in May we wrote about how with this credit card you could get an entire month at a beach resort. We got a lot of feedback about how while a month would be awesome, a week would be more realistic! There are plenty of places where you can get a good week of vacation time on the beach, relaxing, sipping cocktails, while your coworkers are back in the office, freezing in hoodies and sweatpants.

The Basics

The Hilton Surpass American Express is an incredibly useful card, and we applied for it last May when the offer was in place. Here’s the main points of the card:

  • From now until October 4, you can get 100,000 Hilton Honors bonus points after you spend $3,000 in purchases on the Card within your first 3 months.
  • After the first year when you renew the card on your anniversary, you get a free weekend night at any Hilton hotel worldwide.
  • When you’re at Hilton hotels, you’ll earn 12x points for each dollar, above and beyond the points you’ll earn for staying at the hotels themselves.
  • Regular purchases earn 3x points, and money spent at Supermarkets, Gas stations, and Restaurants earn double that, or 6x points.
  • Just having the card will earn you Gold status, but spend $40,000 in a calendar year and you’ll earn Diamond status through the end of next year.

Value in the Bonus

We wrote previously about how you can stay at a category 1 hotel and stay for a month for free. There are also great category 2 hotels around the world, but what about something more substantial? Just in the past week alone we received two emails via our travel booking service to help them book trips to Phuket, Thailand. Once we started diving into the bookings, we realized that there are also some amazing values in Thailand for your points!

The Phuket Arcadia Resort and Spa is a gorgeous property and a steal at only 23,000 points a night. 5 nights is only 92,000 thanks to Hilton’s 5th night free policy. That means you could be relaxing on the beach in Thailand for an entire week, for free, with this credit card! Yes please 🙂

Want a shorter stay? How about a quick getaway to Hawaii? You can get a 2 night stay at the Hilton Waikiki Beach in Honolulu also for 100,000 points! We’ve stayed there before and so has our family. It’s a great spot for a quick intro to Hawaii.
