Citi’s ThankYou Premier now offers $625 Sign Up Bonus

There’s been a lot of talk lately about the Citi Prestige credit card and it’s changing benefits. While I won’t be continuing with my Prestige card, I did apply for the Premier card. They’ve got a publicly available sign up bonus now that’s good for 50,000 points after you apply, get approved, and spend $4,000. That’s a heck of a lot better than the other offer we’ve seen recently that was around 20-30,000 points. The annual fee is $95 and is waived the first year.

In case you’re new to Citi, here’s the nitty gritty on the card:

    • Earn 50,000 bonus points after spending $4,000 in purchases within the first 3 months of account opening*
    • 50,000 ThankYou® Points are redeemable for $625 in airfare on any airline, anytime with no blackout dates when booked through the ThankYou Travel Center
    • Earn 3X Points on Travel, Including Gas Stations
    • Earn 2X Points on Dining Out & Entertainment
    • Earn 1X Points on All Other Purchases
    • No expiration and no limit to the amount of points you can earn with this card
    • Points Transfer allows you to transfer points to participating airline and hotel loyalty programs
    • No Foreign Transaction Fees on purchases*

While some of the features are rather pedestrian (no foreign transaction fees, no limit to points earned) here’s a few big call outs on the list:

Airline and Hotel transfer partners

Citi doesn’t have the same transfer partners as Chase, but there are a few standouts. You can transfer at 1:1 to Singapore, Air France Flying Blue, Virgin Atlantic, and Etihad. Garuda is on the list (one of our favorite airlines) and also Asia Miles which has some fantastic distance based awards. These types of redemptions can be for the advanced redeemer, so sometimes the best option is just to get cash for your points.

50,000 points worth $625 in airfare

As many mileage programs with airlines make it harder to redeem your points, having a flexible currency gives you the ability to redeem for miles OR just do a cash conversion. Where most programs offer a 1 point = 1 cent approach, when you’re redeeming ThankYou Points, you’ll get a 25% bonus. Those points are now worth 1.25x each. After you spend the $4,000 in three months you’ll have your 50,000 bonus points in your account. Those can be exchanged for $625 worth of travel, which for many people is the perfect redemption.

Find a great deal like we did to the Philippines and you’ve got two free tickets. That’s a deal!

3X Points on Travel

Citi has a very broad definition of travel. Where many cards limit you to planes, trains, and automobiles, Citi goes a few steps further

3 ThankYou Points
per $1 spent on travel including gas stations, airfare, hotels, cruises, car rental agencies, travel agencies, railways, public transportation, tolls, taxis, parking and much more

Considering those points can be redeemed at 1.25X, that’s getting a 3.75x return on your purchases, which represents an exceptional value.

Should you apply?

If you’re someone looks at mileage and point credit cards as complicated and hard to use, then this card is a perfect solution. The earning structure is very easy and the redemptions offer a 25% bonus on flights booked through Citi. Apply here, at the top of the page, or click the link below! Good luck and as always thanks for reading!
