Buy American AAdvantage Miles on Black Friday for 1.77 cpm!

Black Friday is here, and American Airlines isn’t one to be held back from the fun. They’re launching a Black Friday bonus for any airline miles purchased today the 24th of November.

There’s currently a buy miles bonus currently going on, where you can get up to 100,000 miles as a bonus when you buy 120,000.

But wait, there’s more!

Right now you’re going to get a 20% bonus on TOP of the previous bonus. This means that if you maxed out the promotion and bought 150,000 miles you’ll get 120,000 extra miles instead of the normal 100,000. This equates to a 1.77 cpm, one of, if not THE lowest, we’ve seen. Don’t forget that you’re capped out at 150,000 miles per year per account, so if you purchased earlier this year you would not be eligible.

Should you buy?

Ahh, the eternal question. The question is simple but the answer is difficult. Should you spend almost $5,000 on airline miles? That depends. You’ll get 270,000 miles in this promotion, which could be enough to get you 2-3 round trips in business/first class anywhere in the world. Or, it could get you almost 11 round trips in the USA (assuming you can find the availability).

Cost to buy 150,000 American Airlines Miles

American has been undergoing some serious devaluations lately in their award chart. With that said, it doesn’t make sense to speculate and buy miles to hoard. If you’ve got a short to mid range use for the miles, then by all means go for it. Look at what the cost of the airline ticket would be outright, then see what the cost would be with miles. If the numbers add up, go for it!

Which Credit Card to Use?

Since American Airlines processes their miles directly, it counts as an airline purchase. I’d look at using either the Amex Platinum (earning 5x Membership Rewards) or the Amex Premier Gold card (earning 3x Membership Rewards). I’m becoming more and more a fan of Membership Rewards. For the longest time I wrote them off, but there are some awesome values to be had. Flexible currencies always win out in my book!

Are you going to buy miles today?
